If you’re running Sidel SBO 20 Series 1 or Krones Contiform lines, you already know the struggle. Getting the heat just right in those PET preforms is a total balancing act. You want speed, but you can’t afford to ruin the material.
In that battle, your IR lamps are the ones taking the most abuse. They’re consumables, plain and simple. That’s why we built our replacement lamps to hit those same OEM specs, but without the eye-watering price tag.
The science bit (kept simple)
These lamps use shortwave infrared. We use high-purity quartz glass because it lets the heat soak deep into the PET wall instead of just scorching the surface.
It’s all about the wattage and voltage. If it’s too low? Your preforms won’t hit the right temperature in time. Too high? You’ll end up with those annoying burnt spots or “pearlescence” that makes the bottles look cloudy.
Fitting them in
We use standard R7s or Sk15 connectors, so they just slide right in. No fuss.
Inside, we’ve got a halogen-cycled tungsten filament. Basically, it recycles the evaporated tungsten back onto the filament. It keeps the light steady and helps the lamp last longer, which means fewer midnight trips to the tool crib to replace a blown tube.
A quick tip for the shop floor
You can swap these into your oven right now. No rewiring, no messing with reflectors. Just plug and play.
But here’s the thing: these high-wattage tubes put out a ton of heat. If your cooling fans are clogged with dust or just plain dying, these lamps will burn out way too fast, no matter how good the quality is. Keep those fans clean.
At the end of the day, you’re getting the same heat curve as the original Sidel or Krones units. You get the same results, but you stop paying that “brand name tax” every time a tube goes. It’s a simple way to shave a few cents off your cost per bottle without worrying about the line grinding to a halt.
