
Getting Your Heat Back: A Guide to IP65 Infrared Elements
If you’ve ever stepped into a freezing locker room or a damp changing area, you know that heating the air just doesn’t cut it. You don’t want to wait for the room to warm up; you want to feel the heat on your skin the second you walk in. That’s where shortwave infrared comes in. Instead of fighting the cold air, it beams energy straight to the surface. But here’s the catch: these areas are usually steamy and gross. That’s why we don’t mess around with the IP65 rating. It’s basically a shield that keeps moisture and dust away from the electrical parts. Without it, your elements would burn out way too fast. The Power Stuff To get that instant, “wow” kind of heat, we use high-wattage quartz tubes. Inside, a tungsten filament does all the heavy lifting. Depending on what your building’s grid can handle, you can usually go with 230V or 400V. If you go with the higher voltage, you can actually use a smaller lamp and still get the same amount of heat. It’s a nice way to save space. Why the Materials Matter We use high-purity quartz glass because it can handle the shock of going from cold to scorching hot without cracking. To keep things watertight, we use special gaskets that lock the glass to the metal terminals. This is what stops the steam from creeping in and ruining everything. Plus, we stick to R7s or SK15 connectors. They’re simple drop-in replacements. If a lamp pops, you just swap it out. No need to rip out the wiring or call in a whole crew. A Few Things to Watch Out For Just a heads-up: these high-density elements pull a lot of power. If you’re running 2000W+ tubes, make sure your wiring is thick enough. You don’t want your wires overheating while the room is warming up. Also, these things get incredibly hot. Give the reflector some breathing room so you don’t warp the housing. And one last tip: keep your reflectors clean. If they’re covered in grime or pitted, the heat gets absorbed by the fixture instead of being pushed toward the people who actually need it. A quick clean makes a world of difference.
