
Getting the Heat Right in Your Husky HyPET System
If you’re running high-speed Husky HyPET systems, you already know that throwing more wattage at your preforms isn’t the answer. It’s not about raw power. It’s about where that heat actually goes. The real struggle is getting the heat into the thickest parts—the base and the neck—without accidentally scorching the thin walls. That’s where we spend most of our time. We build our IR lamps to hit that exact sweet spot where the plastic actually absorbs the energy. The trick to deep penetration To get the heat deep into the plastic, we play around with the quartz composition and the filament tuning. Now, short-wave IR has a lot of punch, which is great for fast cycles, but it can be a bit too aggressive. We balance the spectral output so the heat doesn’t just sit on the surface. It needs to drive straight into the core. If it doesn’t, you end up with a “cold core,” and that’s exactly how you get uneven wall thickness in your finished bottles. Nobody wants that. Built for the Husky footprint Our lamps are designed to be simple drop-in replacements. No fuss. We use heavy-duty quartz glass because blowing plants are brutal on equipment, and the rapid thermal cycling can crack cheaper glass. We also make sure the connectors are tight. A loose connection means voltage drops, and that kills your efficiency. One quick tip: if you’re running high-wattage tubes, keep an eye on your power supply. More heat in the preforms means a hotter oven. If your cooling blowers aren’t up to the task, you’re just asking for your lamps to burn out early. The reality of the shop floor These lamps will definitely shave time off your cycles because they deliver heat faster. But there’s a trade-off. Higher heat density means those filaments are working overtime. If your voltage is jumping around, you’ll see a shorter lifespan.
